Some moments in life are meant to be savored slowly. Breakfast and brunch are definitely among them, especially when they come with a splash of history, charm, and, of course, a steaming cup of tea. And if there’s one place in Rome where all of this comes together, it’s Babingtons Tea Room.
Since 1893, right next to the stunning Piazza di Spagna, we’ve been bringing a little piece of England to the heart of the city.
Let’s talk about the Full English Breakfast. It’s not just a dish, it’s a warm, crispy treat straight from the Victorian era. Once enjoyed by English aristocrats to start the day with energy, today it remains a timeless classic. We prepare it just as tradition dictates: eggs, crispy bacon, toast with butter and jam, freshly squeezed juice, and, of course, plenty of tea. Because tea isn’t just a drink: it’s a ritual, a way to slow down and truly enjoy the moment.
Then, there’s Brunch, with an even more curious story. The term was first coined in 1895 by British writer Guy Beringer, who described it as a relaxed alternative to the traditional Sunday breakfast. However, the idea goes back even further to the great English country estates, where lavish foods were served after early morning hunting parties.
So, Brunch isn’t just a trend: it’s a tradition, filled with warmth, conversation and plates prepared with care.
For over 60 years, we have been serving our traditional English Brunch, staying true to its origins. At Babingtons, you won’t find exotic fusions or extravagant reinvention, just authentic, comforting dishes served in an atmosphere that invites you to take your time and enjoy every bite.
And if you can’t visit us in person, our website is filled with ideas, inspiration, and tips to help you recreate the Babingtons experience at home.
We look forward to welcoming you for tea, a smile, and a journey through British tradition.
