A tea room opened by women for women, in the Victorian era when tea was still the preserve of the female universe. Today tea is for everyone, what is important is to choose quality, natural and healthy tea. The lady of the 1800s, with her Victorian-era teacup hat and a rose plant inside her is a symbol of femininity, elegance and celebrates all the women who have been part of our history. From Babingtons’ founders, Isabel Cargill and Anna Maria Babington, to the waitresses, pastry chefs, and cooks who have prepared and served tea in the tea room for more than a century, to the customers who have chosen Babingtons over the decades.
In the chapter ALL WOMEN, FROM THE HALL TO THE KITCHEN of the book “Babingtons: The First 125 Years,” we read.
“The two ladies who landed at the Spanish Steps had also brought this in their luggage. The inkling of a different role for women. It seemed absolutely natural to Anna Maria and Isabel, though with different characters, to “govern” their enterprise by themselves and to hire exclusively ladies and young ladies.
And even today, as the hall turns 125 years old, the task of attending to customers at the tables is entrusted exclusively to women.
