Here then is the design that reproduces the antique clock with the two Victorian cutlery, telling the story of Babingtons evolution from a tea and reading room to a place to enjoy savory and sweet dishes from Anglo-Saxon traditions and “invented” over the decades.
The antique clock, which has been on display from 1893-the year Isabell Cargill and Anna Maria Babington founded the first tea room in Italy-until the 1970s now hangs inside the tea room, reminding us that IT’S ALWAYS TIME FOR TEA!

Founded in 1893 at the height of the Victorian era by two English ladies, Isabel Cargill and Anna Maria Babington, in its early days Babingtons was a tea and reading room for the English community in Rome. In fact, tea at that time was sold only in pharmacies and consumed at home. Babingtons was then the first tea room in Italy, and to this day the English tea ceremony is still celebrated every day in the center of Rome. Since then, Babingtons’ menu has been enriched with savory and sweet dishes from the Anglo-Saxon tradition and with dishes created by our customers over the years.
